Dr. Alterra is passionate about not just teaching a subject and helping with memorization, but creating a new fundamental understanding of the universe that her students can take with them for the rest of their lives.
Dr. Alterra has a PhD in analytical chemistry with a focus on environmental contamination; this work has given her extensive experience in teaching chemistry, biology, math, and English/writing/reading comprehension. Dr. Alterra has specific interest and knowledge in tutoring ADHD students (and other learning disabilities); likewise also, for students who are chronically ill or disabled. She understands that these students are not necessarily more work, but require a different and more holistic approach (though, a holistic approach is what she strives for with every student). Thriving in their studies, not just passing classes, is the goal!
For any student, Dr. Alterra will begin the relationship with first getting to know them, what they are interested in and enjoy, and then what they struggle with and where extra support is needed. This helps her form an approach that is unique to them, because every student is different. This allows Dr. Alterra to allocate more time on subject matter that they find challenging, without spending undue time on principals that they are already comfortable with. Her aim is to be as efficient with the student's time as she is able - Dr. Alterra knows you, or your child, are busy and there are many other things to do besides study!
If you are interested in Dr. Alterra's tutoring services, please email her at solution@dralterra.com to schedule an initial meeting - please include: the student's age, school year, subject matter(s) in need of support, any extra information that you think will give her a better understanding of the student (e.g., learning disabilities, such as ADHD), and date you would like to begin tutoring. Or you may fill out the contact form below.
